…BUT, there are just some verses that really speak to me in a special way, and Hebrews 4:16 is one of them.
The fact that God’s mercy and grace are freely available to us, and that in our time of need we can call on Him, is just so profound. In times of struggle, weakness, temptation, sin, and so forth, it is so comforting that God listens and provides for us.
Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Hebrews 4:16 ~ How to Paint Stamped Images With Watercolors
So anyway, I’m delighted to journal with you on Hebrews 4:16! I picked out some beautiful flower stamps, and I’m going to show you how to use watercolors to paint your stamped images. The flowers really personify the beauty of God’s mercy and grace, and how bright and refreshing it can be to receive His mercy and grace when we need it. (Which, let’s face it, is pretty much all the time!).

Supplies:
These are all the watercolors, stamps, and other supplies I used to create this Hebrews 4:16 page! Feel free to use a different type or brand of watercolors though, or you could even color with something else like markers.
- “Bloom With Grace” stamp set from Creative Worship Stamps
- Archival Ink (black)
- Archival Ink cleaner (helps get more of the ink off the stamps)
- Winsor Newton Cotman watercolors
- Fine point paintbrushes
- “With Love” alpha stamp set (from CWS)
- Pigment ink pad (green)
- Tombow Twintone “Rainbow” pen set (I used the green and pink from this set)
Step-by-Step Instructions:
If you’d like to follow the exact steps I did to create your own Hebrews 4:16 Bible journaling page, these are the steps I took. (Which you can also watch in the video up above). But of course, I encourage you to do your own thing too! Pick different supplies, colors, or take different notes than I did. Let the Scripture speak to you, and follow where God leads.
- BEFORE getting started, prep your page with gesso (unless you’re journaling on thicker paper, like an Illustrating Bible, in which case you can skip the gesso). This step helps strengthen and protect the thin Bible paper, so you can use the watercolor paints on it without bleed-through or tearing.
- Once the page is ready, get your stamps and stamp them using a waterproof ink like Archival Ink. (I also highly recommend using the Archival Ink cleaner to clean the ink off your stamps afterwards).
- Next, you can start watercoloring! Pick a nice pale shade for your background (adding more water will make the color lighter), and paint the background all around your stamped images. NOTE: If you’ve never painted on a gessoed Bible page before, be aware that the watercolors will sit on top of the paper (rather than sinking in). So, just be mindful of that.
- Once the background is done, start painting your flowers. You can pick whatever colors you like; just remember, adding less water will get you a darker/saturated color, and adding more water will yield a lighter/less saturated color.
- After painting, now you can add some words! Alpha stamps make it easy. You can stamp “mercy” and “grace” as I did, or something else from Hebrews 4:16.
- Optionally, you can write in some words with a pen, like I did by adding “we will receive” to the “mercy” and “grace” I had stamped.
- Don’t forget to take some notes, about the meaning of the verse, how it applies to you, and so forth. I used a Tombow Twintone pen for this step.
- Add any additional finishing touches you want, such as underlining or outlining the verse.
