I’ve been learning lately, just how much of a difference my thinking makes in my life!

I’d read Proverbs 17:22 many times before, and while it sounded great in theory, I didn’t really give it much credit. I thought, yeah yeah, sounds good, but I didn’t really think it would make such a huge difference.

That is, until I started doing pain reprocessing therapy for chronic neck pain… the whole concept of this therapy, is to retrain the brain to stop generating chronic pain signals, by changing the way I think about and respond to the pain. It’s not a quick fix, but more of a long term process that takes time to implement and see the effects of.

I’m at the very beginning of my PRT journey, but already I’ve been completely shocked at how much my thoughts shape my overall experience of pain and life in general. Basically, I’ve been letting the fear-pain loop keep me in bondage for years, and I’m working to undo all that. I’m seeing little glimmers of progress, and I’m excited to continue with it and apply more changes to my thinking overall.

Which brings us back to Proverbs 17:22… the thoughts we think about ourselves, our circumstances, etc., can have a profound effect on our bodies, relationships, actions, and so much more. It really is fascinating! Having a cheerful heart truly IS good medicine, and a crushed spirit really can dry up the bones.

If you’re interested in the deep dive discussion and want to skip right to it, I start talking about a cheerful heart + other Scriptures about thinking/gratitude/trust at minute 8:07. And at minute 12:30, I talk about real-life applications of changing our thinking, including my experience with pain reprocessing therapy (if you’re interested in learning more about PRT, the book The Way Out by Alan Gordon is a great place to start).
