✝️ 🕊️ ❤️ Welcome, friend! This is part one in a three-part series about faith, hope, and love… check out part two here: 35 Encouraging Bible Verses About Hope, and part three here: 40 Meaningful Bible Verses About Love.

If you’ve ever experienced a lack of faith, you are not alone. There are so many circumstances in life that can cause us to doubt… from the sheer fact that we can’t SEE God with our physical eyes, to all the trials that discourage us and threaten to derail our trust in the Lord. It’s no wonder God put so many examples of strong faith in the Bible… because He knew we would need them!

I don’t know about you, but I want to be like David, who had such confidence that God would give him victory over Goliath (1 Samuel 17:45-50)! And Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who had audacious faith that God could save them from the blazing furnace (Daniel 3:13-18)!

And also, like the Apostle Paul, who kept the faith until the very end!

Yes, life is full of reasons to doubt, temptations to draw us away from God, and troubles to make us question God and His plan… but that’s why it’s so important to build each other up in faith!

And of course, what better way to do that, than by sharing God’s Word?

Bible Verses About Faith in God

Let’s start with the essentials… Have you ever wondered what FAITH actually is? Have you struggled to believe God in the first place? These great Bible verses about faith in God explain what it is, and why it’s so important.

Imagine that you live in a part of the world where it’s perpetually cloudy, and you’ve never actually seen the sun. You’ve been told it’s there, and you see the light it gives, but you can’t see the sun itself. Faith in God is kind of like that… we have faith that He’s there, even though we can’t see him directly. 😉

1) Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.

2) Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

3) John 3:16 (NIV)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

4) Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLT)

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

5) Galatians 2:20 (NIV)

I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

6) Romans 10:9-10 (NIV)

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.

7) Romans 1:16-17 (NIV)

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile. For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”

8) Romans 5:1 (NLT)

Therefore, since we have been made right in God’s sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.

The Case for Faith

Bible Verses About Growing in Faith

This is by far my favorite sub-category of Bible verses about faith and trust! These are the Scriptures you need, when you’re STRUGGLING to believe. When you have a tiny seed of faith but long for more, when you’re waiting on the Lord for something, and you just need a boost to trust God more… this is it! These are your go-to Bible verses about faith in hard times—those times when you feel impossibly weary and need to be reminded of God’s promises.

But really, you might ask, what DOES the Bible say about keeping faith in hard times?
Believe me, I’ve been there… on those days when I’m questioning my circumstances, and wondering what in the world God is doing, verses #9 and #13 are especially helpful.

9) James 1:2-4 (NIV)

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

10) Luke 17:5-6 (NIV)

The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”
He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

11) Mark 9:23-24 (NIV)

“‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

12) Romans 14:1 (NLT)

Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong.

13) 1 Peter 1:7-9 (NLT)

These trials will show that your faith is genuine. It is being tested as fire tests and purifies gold—though your faith is far more precious than mere gold. So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor on the day when Jesus Christ is revealed to the whole world.
You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.

14) Romans 4:20-21 (NLT)

Abraham never wavered in believing God’s promise. In fact, his faith grew stronger, and in this he brought glory to God. He was fully convinced that God is able to do whatever he promises.

15) 2 Corinthians 5:7 (NIV)

For we live by faith, not by sight.

Bible Verses About Faith and Healing

Speaking of keeping faith through hard times, how about some inspirational Bible verses about faith and healing? I think healing is the one of the hardest things to believe for, especially if you or someone you love has been suffering for a long time, and/or the situation seems impossibly hopeless. Like, we know God CAN, but of course we also know from practical experience that not everyone receives the healing they desire.

And yet, it’s still important to entrust your cares to God, and believe that He can do all things, whether or not He heals in the way you’re hoping for. Regardless of the outcome, we must ask with complete FAITH in God’s ability to provide!

16) Mark 10:51-52 (NIV)

“What do you want me to do for you?” Jesus asked him.
The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”
“Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

17) Matthew 15:25-28 (NIV)

The woman came and knelt before him. “Lord, help me!” she said.
He replied, “It is not right to take the children’s bread and toss it to the dogs.”
“Yes it is, Lord,” she said. “Even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their master’s table.”
Then Jesus said to her, “Woman, you have great faith! Your request is granted.” And her daughter was healed at that moment.

18) James 5:15 (NIV)

And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise them up. If they have sinned, they will be forgiven.

19) Mark 5:33-34 (NIV)

Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

20) Luke 5:18-20 (NIV)

Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. When they could not find a way to do this because of the crowd, they went up on the roof and lowered him on his mat through the tiles into the middle of the crowd, right in front of Jesus.
When Jesus saw their faith, he said, “Friend, your sins are forgiven.”

faith can move mountains

Bible Verses About Faith Moving Mountains

Ah, but healing is not the only seemingly impossible miracle we need to believe for, is it? Sometimes in life there are other situations… like the war that seems to have no end, or the bully that just won’t quit, or even the family member who refuses to believe in Jesus. When you’re waiting for God to act, let these beautiful Bible verses about faith moving mountains boost your confidence in Him! And, keep praying!

21) Jeremiah 32:17 (NIV)

“Ah, Sovereign LORD, you have made the heavens and the earth by your great power and outstretched arm. Nothing is too hard for you.

22) Matthew 19:26 (NIV)

Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

23) Mark 11:22-24 (AMP)

Jesus replied, “Have faith in God [constantly]. I assure you and most solemnly say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be lifted up and thrown into the sea!’ and does not doubt in his heart [in God’s unlimited power], but believes that what he says is going to take place, it will be done for him [in accordance with God’s will]. For this reason I am telling you, whatever things you ask for in prayer [in accordance with God’s will], believe [with confident trust] that you have received them, and they will be given to you.

24) Matthew 17:20 (AMP)

He answered, “Because of your little faith [your lack of trust and confidence in the power of God]; for I assure you and most solemnly say to you, if you have [living] faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and [if it is God’s will] it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you.

25) Ephesians 3:20-21 (NLT)

Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think. Glory to him in the church and in Christ Jesus through all generations forever and ever! Amen.

Bible Verses About Faith Bearing Fruit

Okay, so up until now we’ve mostly talked about building up our faith and confidence in the Lord. Which is great! But, what’s the outcome of that strong faith? How should you and I live our lives, in a way that demonstrates faith and trust in God? This final grouping of the best Bible verses about faith is where “the rubber meets the road”. Yes, we are saved by grace through faith alone (Ephesians 2:8-9), BUT that faith should also produce fruit, as these Scriptures attest.

26) James 2:24 (NIV)

You see that a person is considered righteous by what they do and not by faith alone.

27) 1 John 5:3-5 (NLT)

Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome. For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.

28) Colossians 1:9-10 (NLT)

So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you. We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you spiritual wisdom and understanding. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.

29) Hebrews 6:11-12 (NLT)

Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.

30) 1 Peter 1:7-9 (NIV)

These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

I hope these great Bible verses about faith have given you lots of encouragement, to put greater confidence in your Heavenly Father!

One final note: If you still find yourself struggling to believe, and to be fruitful in your faith, don’t give up! We all have difficulty… Jesus never said it would be easy, after all. I encourage you to get back up each day, take up your cross once again, and keep following Jesus (Luke 9:23-24). Trust that His grace is sufficient for you (2 Corinthians 12:8-10), and trust Him to help you run your race with endurance (Hebrews 12:1-3).
