I get it, y’all. I really do. Sometimes, life gets crazy, and you just DON’T have much time left for Bible journaling!
But, please don’t let that stop you… even if you only have a short window of time available, there are plenty of Bible art journaling ideas that are quick and easy.
Normally, I’d prefer to spend a leisurely hour or two on a Sunday afternoon Bible journaling. When I can just sit with God, pray over the Scripture, think about what it means, and create something memorable—without worrying about time constraints—that’s the best. Elaborate multi-media pages, with paint, ink, and more? Bring it on!
Of course, life doesn’t always work out that way! Sometimes, I only have a 15 or 30-minute opportunity to journal. And there’ve definitely been some days in the past when I thought, oh well, I’ll just skip it altogether.
But, I’ve learned that there are lots of easy Bible journaling ideas that can be done in a short amount of time! We have no excuse not to spend that precious window of time in God’s Word.
The trick to fitting your journaling session into a shorter time frame, is to keep it simple! Things like limiting the size of your artwork, and selecting Bible journaling supplies that require very little prep work/cleanup, can allow you to fit a lot more into a shorter span of time.
5 Quick & Easy Bible Journaling Ideas
Want some specific Bible journaling examples? These five are my personal favorite easy Bible journaling ideas, which I use whenever I have a limited window of opportunity to journal. (And by the way, many of these are great Bible journaling ideas for beginners, as they require only minimal supplies or artistic skills!)
1) Use Bible journaling printables!
There are so many great free Bible journaling printables out there (+paid ones too), it’s easy to grab one and use it in your journaling Bible. The artwork has already been created for you, so it’s a huge time-saver!
Plus, there’s so much inspiration that comes with using printable Bible journaling ideas! That means you can worry less about what Bible passage to journal on, or what colors or themes to incorporate, and just focus on God’s Word.
2) Do some ‘micro’ journaling
Since I only have time for Bible art journaling on a weekly basis, I’ve taken up this practice of ‘micro’ journaling during my daily Bible study time. Micro journaling is simply taking notes and drawing in a regular Bible (like mine pictured here, which only has 0.5” margins). With the limited space available, there’s only room for very tiny handwriting or doodles. So it’s an awesome way to journal when you only have five minutes, but you still REALLY want to record that important lesson you learned in your study time. Talk about easy journal ideas—it doesn’t get much easier than that!
3) Journal in a pocket Bible
This is my newest favorite way to Bible journal when I’m short on time! I recently got this cute little pocket New Testament, which has a blank page opposite every page of Scripture. Of all these easy Bible journaling ideas, this is my go-to for when I get home late on Sunday and find that I only have ~15-30 minutes to journal. The small page size requires less time to work on, and since I’ve only been using colored pencils in it, that also saves time (as opposed to using paint or ink which require drying time and cleanup afterward).
Of course, this pocket Bible is also super handy if you travel a lot (like for business), and you want a journaling Bible you can easily take with you. It’s so small and compact, you could slip it into your purse, carry it to church with you, keep it in your desk drawer at work, or wherever you happen to be.
4) Use only part of the page
Or, if you don’t want to invest in a separate pocket Bible to do quick and easy Bible journaling ideas, you can always limit yourself to only journaling on part of your Bible page. I’ve done this many times, with just a few simple supplies like colored pencils, pens, and some washi tape! It definitely saves a lot of time versus doing an elaborate full-page design.
Another bonus to this simple Bible journaling ideas aesthetic, is that you can always come back later and journal about a different verse on another part of the page! I mean, I do love full-page Bible journals, but it’s also nice to leave space open for additions in the future.
5) Draw it like a kid
My last easy Bible journaling ideas tip, is to channel your inner child, and just draw simple pictures to represent Bible stories! Stop worrying about whether it’s perfect (if the colors are right, or if it looks realistic, etc.), and just draw it. Draw stick figures to represent family, sketch an animal that looks like a wonky cartoon, or whatever will help bring the Scripture to life for you.
As much as I love elaborate artworks, gorgeous details, and layers of color, sometimes the best Bible journaling ideas aren’t the flashy, over-the-top artistic ones… Sometimes, the best ideas are the simple ones—the ones you can do in the time you have, and that will still help you meditate on the Scripture and tuck away that truth in your heart.
So, there you have it: Five quick and easy Bible journaling ideas you can do, even when you’re short on time! Next time life is crazy, give it to God, and use whatever time you DO have to meditate on His Word. I promise, you’ll be glad you did.
