Rejoice & Give Thanks! Bible Journaling on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

Join me for this Bible journaling session on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, which is all about rejoicing and giving thanks!

I don’t know about you, but I could always use a reminder to be thankful! Especially when my circumstances are not ideal, there are setbacks and frustrations, and/or reasons that cause me to doubt God’s provision… it’s important to remember to give thanks and keep praying and trusting God.

Do you feel that way too? Like, you can need all the reminders you can get, every day and even every hour, to be thankful regardless of what’s going on in your life?

If so, you’re going to love this Bible journaling tutorial!

Rejoice & Give Thanks - Bible Journaling Tutorial

This is what I love about journaling in God’s Word… to create a page that I can refer back to time and time again, to remember and reinforce those Biblical lessons that I need to remember. Because let’s face it, we humans are fickle and forgetful, and the minute our circumstances change or a new challenge presents itself, we panic. And we need to be reminded of God’s TRUTH in Scripture, again and again!

Instructions

If you’d like to follow the exact steps I did in creating this rejoice and give thanks Bible journaling page, here they are! But, feel free to adjust the steps to your own supplies or preferences.

  1. FIRST: If you’re using a regular Bible (with very thin pages), consider prepping your page with gesso first before beginning. Gesso will help strengthen and protect the page, so you can add paint and ink without worrying about bleed-through or tearing.
  2. Begin by stamping your leaves with the black Archival Ink. This type of ink is water- and smudge-resistant, so it’s great for images that you’re going to apply paint to.
  3. Next, use Gelatos to create a background. Smear the gelato pigment on a palette or plate, and add some water. Mix with a paintbrush, and then apply on your page as desired. I painted around the leaves, to create a light blue backdrop.
  4. Then, use different Gelatos colors to fill in each of your leaves. (Or, use the same color for all the leaves. It’s up to you!)
  5. Add whatever words you desire, using stamps. If you don’t have a particular word stamp, you can use alpha stamps to spell it out, as I did with the word “REJOICE”.
  6. If desired, you can write some extra notes about the Scripture passage. I put my notes inside the leaves (using a gold paint pen, which I later went over with a black Pigma Micron pen to make the words show up better).
  7. Lastly, add your finishing touches… you can fill in your words with gel pens, outline/underline key verses, or embellish the page with another stamp (as I did with the berries above “REJOICE”.)

I hope you enjoy creating your own Bible journaling page on 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18! May you be reminded to rejoice and give thanks always, regardless of your circumstances. And, to keep on praying, no matter what. 🙏 ✝️
