Isn’t it wonderful that God loves us so much, he’s willing to forgive us? That he sent his one and only Son to die on a cross as a living sacrifice, so that we could have eternal life? So amazing!
Several months ago, I set out to capture this wondrous truth on paper. I’d been totally inspired by the Stars Go Dim song “You Are Loved”, and was excited to test out my brush calligraphy skills to create some John 3:16 art.
Sitting in my favorite cozy chair (an IKEA poang chair, in case you’re wondering), I scribbled a colorful starburst with brush pens. Then I used a water brush to turn those scribbles into a watercolor background. Super fun! It took me a few tries to hand letter the words, as you can see in the photos below.
One of my favorite things about brush calligraphy, is that I get to combine my hands-on craft skills with my digital design skills. I’m just such a geek when it comes to arts & crafts! But it came in especially handy here, as I placed a white heart onto the watercolor burst, and layered the calligraphy on top. I might be biased, but I think it turned out fantastic.
All along, I had plans to put this on a coffee mug, with “you are loved” on one side, and John 3:16 art on the opposite. It just seems perfect! If you’re feeling cranky at 5am, have your joe and thank God for loving your cranky self LOL. When you’re sick, drink your tea and remember that God is with you in your struggles. If you’re cold in winter, have some hot chocolate and feel your heart warm too as you think about God’s great love for you.
And you’re probably rolling your eyes at me for getting so wound up about a silly coffee mug, but hey, it’s a great message! ♥
What else should I make? I’m always open to suggestions!
